At Noel Park, children have an active voice within the school and are consulted about their opinions for how we can make the school, the local community and the wider world even better. We value our pupils' views and opinions and aim to give as many children as possible the opportunity to share and develop these over the course of the year.
With this in mind, we have developed a pupil leadership pathway which gives children the opportunity to gradually increase the level of responsibility they take on as they progress through the school.
As children take on these roles, they are given leadership training to support them in developing key leadership qualities and skills such as teamwork, communication and presentation skills, strategic thinking and innovation. Our pupils can begin with being a class champion or a lead learner, responsible for a certain area of the class, and build up to being a member of School Council, the most high profile of our pupil leadership roles.

The leadership pathway gives children the opportunity to progress their leadership skills as they move through the school. As they gain leadership experience, they are able to apply for posts involving more responsibility and more of a whole school focus.
Class Responsibility
The first rung of the pupil leadership pathway is a class responsibility. This will be a role taken on in class where students have their first opportunity to develop leadership skills. They will have a small responsibility in their classroom and the opportunity to have some ownership over the running of the class. The main responsibility roles will be those of lead learners and class champions, however staff may want to give other small leadership roles in their class.
Whole School Responsibility
The second rung of the pupil leadership pathway is a school responsibility. Students will have a role that will impact on an area outside their own classroom. The selection process for each role will be different, depending on the role and the expectations of it. Some examples of whole school responsibilities include:
Whole School Responsibility and Pupil Responsibility
The final rung of the pupil leadership pathway is being responsible for school and pupils. This role will involve being part of the Junior Leadership Team and, if successfully elected, School Council, where students will have comprehensive experience of developing their leadership skills.
School Council is the most prestigious leadership role in the school. This role is for students who are an outstanding example of what is expected from students at Lift Noel Park. They will play a highly active role in both the running of the school and in establishing links with the local community.
The role of a Junior Leader is to ensure high standards across the school, focusing in particular on classroom environments and presentation and handwriting standards in books. The team meets on a weekly basis to discuss how to monitor and support effectively, sharing what high standards look like, strategies for achieving and maintaining consistency and how to give effective feedback to support their peers in improving. During these sessions, pen licences are also awarded; licences are then presented with feedback by the team during celebration assemblies. Alternatively, where there are still further improvements to be made, support and coaching is offered to the child in question.
The Junior Leadership Team is represented by one child from each class in Year 4 to Year 6 and are selected based on their ability to be role models who maintain high standards in their own work.
