Safeguarding statement

We have a strong commitment to equal opportunities and we aim to ensure each child gets equal access to the curriculum and resources. Children with additional needs or disabilities are welcomed and we endeavour to support our children to achieve their best. We have partially adapted our building to accommodate children and their families with disabilities to ensure good access for wheelchair users on the ground floor, especially for toilets and events. However, we do not have easy access to to upstairs rooms due to the nature of the building. We have a text service for parents who are hearing impaired and we can employ signers for meetings when necessary. Sometimes we have visually impaired children and we work hard to ensure they are supported with equipment to support their learning.

We avoid stereotyping and encourage each child to develop a positive self-image and respect for others.

We aim to share knowledge and experience of the rich variety of cultures in our school through multi-cultural curriculum and resources.

We have children from all over the world with at least 40 different languages and several different faiths represented in our school. Where possible we try to use interpreters at our family meetings and try to get as many letters as possible translated into some of our community languages. Many of our staff are multi-lingual and they will be happy to interpret in school for our families.

All adults at our school recognise the responsibility we have under the Education Act 2002 and we have arrangements in place to safeguard and promote the high level of care for the safety and welfare of our children.Our Policy on Safeguarding and Child Protection sets out how our governing body discharges its statutory responsibilities relating to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children at our school. Our policy applies to all staff, paid or unpaid, working in the school. The governors, teaching assistants, midday supervisors, secretaries as well as teachers can often be the first point of disclosure for a child.

Matters of concern, whether they relate to school or home, will always be treated confidentially. Please make early contact with the school to discuss any concerns.

eSafety

Keep an eye on your child’s internet use including email and social media (Facebook, Snapchat, etc)
Check the history folder of your internet browser to check what sites have been accessed
Consider purchasing filter software or see if your ISP (BT, Sky, Talk Talk, etc) provide their own
Protect your computer with firewall/antivirus software

All staff have been trained on how to report safeguarding and technical concerns, such as if: 

They witness or suspect unsuitable material has been accessed
They are able to access unsuitable material
They are teaching topics that could create unusual activity on the filtering logs
There is a failure in the software or an abuse of the system
There are perceived unreasonable restrictions that affect teaching and learning or administrative tasks
They notice abbreviations or misspellings that allow access to restricted material

eSafety student guidance

Never post your personal information, such as a mobile phone number, home address, or the name of your school
Be aware that information you give out through social networking sites, instant messages, emails and blogs could put you at risk of bullying or harassment
Never meet in person with anyone you first “met” online. Some people may not be who they say they are
Remember that posting information about your friends could put them at risk
Never respond to harassing or rude texts, messages and emails. Delete any unwanted messages or friends who continuously leave inappropriate comments
Never give out your password to anyone other than your parent or carer
If you would not say something to another person’s face, do not post it online!
Only add people as friends to your site if you know them in real life
Think before posting your photos. DO NOT post or send semi-nude or nude pictures of yourself or anyone else. Personal photos should not have revealing information such as school names or location
Use the privacy settings of the social networking sites
